Licking Procrastination in 21 Days

Are you a procrastinator? Do you put things off that are not your favorite things to do? Do you think that you can always do something “later” and then ”later” fills up fast with other tasks?

I know that feeling. Believe it or not, I am a procrastinator by nature. My first thought is to do things later. Even though I’ve become a time-management “expert” of sorts, I still have to fight my procrastinating nature. With persistence and dedication you too can conquer clutter by avoiding procrastination. Procrastination affects you emotionally. Things pile up on the “to do” list in the back of your mind cluttering up your brain. All of the “thinking about” instead of "doing" causes unnecessary stress and worry. Your best (actually your only) option for change is to “just do it”.

Change your thought pattern and do things when you are thinking about them. This isn’t easy, but it is achievable. I struggle every day to squash my want to put things off. I’ve started a practice of purposefully tackling the biggest, least inviting, task on my to-do list first. If I can get through that, I can get everything done. It has become a game I play with myself…pick the task, set a timer, and get it done. Learn how to keep an accurate "to-do list" here.

Breaking the procrastination habit takes time. Habits, good or bad, take at least 21 days to form. It takes 21 days of constantly doing an act on a daily basis in order for it to become second nature. So don't give up… give it 21 days. 21 days is not forever… you can get through it

Start right now. What have you been putting off? Is there a stack of laundry giving you the shivers? Throw in a load right now. Owe your sister a phone call but don’t feel like dealing with “family stuff”? Call her because the reality is that you are never going to feel like dealing with “family stuff” but it needs to be dealt with. Stop and get the oil changed while you’re out running errands, before the car breaks down.

Don’t over think it… don’t put it off… just do it.

I’d love to hear your story. Send me a note in 21 days and let me know what you got accomplished.
